Bernadyne Kaye Adams

July 9, 1940 ~ March 15, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Bernadyne was born to Avery and Marie Houston on a Tuesday July 9, 1940 and passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 8:30 pm. She was the youngest of four children born to her parents. All three of her siblings, Daryl Dean, Duane and Marilyn, have preceded her in death. She went to school in Ellis Kansas where she graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1958. During her high school years, she was the church organist for the Methodist church in Ellis, KS.

After graduating from high school she attended her freshman year of college at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. While at Southwestern College she met Roger Adams where he grew up and where his parents lived. They attended the Methodist church that was the College church where all the college students attended. Her second year of college was at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

Bernadyne and Roger were married on June 5, 1960 at the Ellis, KS Methodist church. After getting married and moving to California in 1960 she worked as a clerk typist for Orange County. She later worked for the Agriculture Extension Service in Anaheim, California and when she became pregnant with her first child she had to quit that job in the seventh month of pregnancy. She gave birth to Jeffery Scott on July 23, 1967. After Jeff was born she then went to work for the Dept. of Education in Orange County until she moved to Hemet. On June 15 1973 she gave birth to Gregory Todd.

In Hemet she started to take care of kids whose parents worked. In 1975 Bernadyne and her husband started The House of Portraits in Hemet where she became the studio manager. She was very good at making the person being photographed look their very best. That studio photographed many schools, sports, weddings and portraits and is still a prospering business owned by son Greg and his wife Lynn.

Bernadyne was a very good multi-tasker, manager & organizer and was the chair of Stonecroft Women’s Connection Women’s group in Yucaipa for almost 10 years. She was also a respected discussion leader in the Hemet Women’s Bible Study Fellowship. At Bible Fellowship Church, she served on the leadership teams for both Women of Wisdom (WOW) and Top Crust Senior Ministry. While living in Banning for 10 years, she was the queen mother of The “Red Hat Tamales” a Red Hat group of women in Sun Lakes Country Club, a 55 and older retirement community.

She is survived by her husband Roger, married for 56 years, Jeff and Cheryl Adams of La Vergne, TN, Greg and Lynn Adams of Hemet, CA, 6 grandchildren, Cody and his wife Sylvia, Micah, Twins Cassidi and Kelsi, Leilani and Cash and one great grandchild Ethan Gabriel.
