Dorothy (Dodi) Scott Searl, age 85, passed away on February 20, 2017 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Born on January 31, 1932 to Fred and Erma Scott in King City, California, she moved to San Jacinto Valley in her youth. Her outgoing personality earned her an Apricot Princess title, Farmer’s Daughter and Miss Hemet 1947. A highlight of her life was being a Rose Princess in Pasadena.
Married to Gerald G. (Jerry) Searl in 1950, she raised 4 children while staying active in the community. She was involved with Pilgrim Congregational Church, P.E.O., Jr. Women’s Club and Assistance League among others. She supported our public library, Hemet Valley Hospital, Historical Society, and was the recipient of the coveted “Book of Golden Deeds” award from the Exchange Club.
She enjoyed traveling and crafting, but her most special times were those spent with family and friends enjoying each other’s company.
Dodi is survived by her companion of 20 years, Marvin Gudmundson; 3 sons, Craig (Leslie) Searl, Grant Searl and Reed Searl; daughter, Julie (Bob) Weidemann; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. Proceeding Dodi in death are her parents; sister, Iva Mae (Toots/Scottie) and husband Jerry.
