Tribute

In Remembrance of Edward F. Hodge
Edward Hodge, a loyal Servant of the Lord, devoted husband, and loving father, born on May 22,
1934, in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. Ed was raised by his Aunt until he enlisted in the United
States Navy. Ed served four years in the Navy, with two years of service on the USS Ticonderoga as
an assembler during the Korean War. Ed was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Upon
completion of service in the United States Navy; Ed married the love of his life Patricia, on October
14, 1967. Ed was a parishioner at Florence Avenue Four Square Church in Santa Fe Springs where
he was an usher and served as a Deacon for years. Ed remained a loyal servant of the Lord, often
helping wherever and whenever he could.
Ed and Pat often traveled to Lake Isabella, Lake Elsinore, Big Bear, and Yosemite enjoying the
outdoors…camping, fishing, or simply floating in the river with the current.
Ed is survived by his wife Pat, his two sons Douglas and Jonathan, four grandkids, and three great
grandkids. Ed also spent time with his grandkids, taking them camping, fishing, and swimming. Ed
prioritized family and spending time together.
Through the years; Ed and Pat maintained their ministry service, and when Ed retired after 21 years
of employment with the City of Long Beach; they continued to travel and visited several countries
through the years. They enjoyed the open seas on several cruise ships, and eventually traveled to
South America and Mexico numerous times through missionary trips to donate much needed
living essentials to the people living along the Amazon River and the indigenous towns of Mexico.
Ed and Patricia remained committed and dedicated to their ministry of Valvista Assembly and The
Well Church in Hemet, often delivering sundries and food items they picked up from the food
bank.
In more recent years, Ed and Pat maintained a relationship with God, and would jump at the
chance to spend time with family. A family ritual, and certainly never a dull moment included a
good ol’ friendly game of cards. Although any new competitor was commonly told, “It’s just a
game.”, It was never was…“just a game.” One could always tell when Edward was about to “go
out” as he would slowly look up from his hand, and stare straight into your eyes as he would
calmly, yet authoritatively, lay down his hand on the table and relish in catching you with a hand
full of points. Pat would always say, “Ohhh Ed…Did you go out?”. Holidays were never complete
without a game of ‘Spaghetti’, ‘Boots and Socks’, or rolling the dice for ‘Ten Thousand.’
Dear Ed, It was never, just a game…it was a pleasure. (Smile)
Ed's favorite Psalm.

Psalm 23

The LORD Is My Shepherd

A Psalm of David.

    [1] The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    [2]     He makes me lie down in green pastures.
    He leads me beside still waters.
    [3]     He restores my soul.
    He leads me in paths of righteousness
        for his name’s sake.

    [4] Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
        I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
        your rod and your staff,
        they comfort me.

    [5] You prepare a table before me
        in the presence of my enemies;
    you anoint my head with oil;
        my cup overflows.
    [6] Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
        all the days of my life,
    and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
        forever.
