Henry Houston Finnie Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday March 17, 2017 at Loma Linda University Medical Center, in Loma Linda, California at the age of 78.
Henry was born on February 7, 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee to Henry Houston Finnie Sr. and Aline Dorothy Harris. He always had an interest in baseball, but couldn’t play because the games were always on Sunday and his mother had him in church on Sundays. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Beverly M. Bullard, of Cleveland, Ohio, his brother, Bertrand R. Finnie, of Memphis,Tennessee, his daughter, Marilyn Marte of Memphis, Tennessee, 2 nephews, 1 niece, good friend, Glenda Gregory and a host of family members and friends. Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Houston Finnie Sr. and Mrs. Aline Dorothy Finnie.
Henry went into the Army shortly out of high school. He spent 20 years in the military. During Henry’s time in the service he received the following decorations: National Defense Service Medal//Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal//Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Start//Vietnam Campation Medal with 60 Device//Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm//Good Conduct Medal 7th Award//2 Overseas Service Ribbon//Army Service Ribbon//Army Achieve Medal//Marksmanship Badge (Rifle M-16).
After retiring from the Army, he worked in security in Germany. After retiring from the security company, Henry came back to the states and settled in San Jacinto, California in 1997 where he resided until his death.
