Mrs. Dora Salgado Betancourt passed away peacefully at home on December 13, 2017 in Hemet, California at the age of 88.

Dora is survived by her children, Dora and Ed Barkley, Christina Logan and John and Jeanie Betancourt, grandchildren, Raymond and Jamie Barkley, Daniel and Jessica Cooper, Jody and Cyndi Lemke, John and Tari Betancourt and Kevin and Amber Ewick, 30 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Dora was born on September 3, 1929 in El Monte, California  to Perfecto and Cipriana Salgado. She graduated from El Monte High School and attended College in Los Angeles. The oldest girl to 5 siblings, Dora grew up working in the family store then assisting with payroll and accounting for her Uncle Joe. She married Raymond J Betancourt on June 6, 1948. After moving to Vista, California, Dora began working for Safeway and after 24 years retired as a checker. After retirement Ray and Dora traveled the US and Canada and were very active with the Elks. In 1987 they moved to Hemet where she worked at Hemet High School as a teacher’s aide then retired once again in 1996. Music was always a great love of Dora’s, she was an accomplished singer and pianist. As a young woman she sang in church and private functions, as a grandmother she played music that will stay in our hearts forever.  

She was a compassionate individual who loved her Family & Community and was passionate about helping others. She was an active and dedicated member of the Church and often volunteered as a lector, took communion to the home bound as well as volunteering for the youth hospice program. She impacted many people in many ways.
