Evangelina "Babes" Sanchez

Evangelina Sánchez was born on December 15, 1930 to Federico and Adelina Martinez. Mom had an older brother, Alfredo (deceased, 1985). Mom and her brother were raised by their paternal grandma and step-grandpa (Tata) following Adelina’s passing in 1932. Tata continued to care for them after their grandma’s death in 1942. Mom and her brother were close throughout their childhood and into adulthood. Tata lived the last 20 years of his life in our family’s home as Mom cared for him until he passed away in 1981.

When Mom was 15 years old, she married the love of her life, Antonio Sánchez. The two shared 60 years together and during that time they had four children: Norma (Rudy), Tony Jr. – deceased, 1999 (Sherri), Johnny (Linda), and Ricky (Irene). Mom was able to witness four generations as she was a grandma to eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Her most important roles were those of a wife and a Mom. She spent her time as a homemaker and was an excellent cook. When Dad retired, they moved to The Ranch on Penny Lane where they spent the remainder of Dad’s life together until he passed in 2007.

We can only hope that after almost 13 years apart they are back in each other’s arms, dancing and watching over us.

I'm Free 

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard his call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I've found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My Life's been full, I savoured much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch,

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
