Evelyn Louise (Parkhurst) Icenogle,

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, age 99, died June 25, 2017 at home.

She was born in Evansville, Indiana, June 20th 1918, the eldest child of Herod & Martha Parkhurst. The family soon moved to Southern Illinois where she grew up.  On August 19, 1940 she married John Icenogle in Mattoon, Illinois.  Soon after, the couple moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1942 they moved to North Hollywood, CA, then in 1953 to Chatsworth, CA and in 1966 to Winchester, CA, where she lived until her death.

Evelyn had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of the Hemet Assembly of God since 1967.  In managing a large family, she was known for her organization and cleanliness.  Evelyn’s focus was her home, with large happy crowds at holidays.  Her laughter was contagious.  A wonderful cook, she hosted many beautiful meals for friends and family.  She enjoyed reading, embroidering, sewing and making her own clothes. “Momma” lit up when a baby entered the room and loved to rock them to sleep. Her kind, patient ways were a refuge for many, especially her children. She was loved and admired by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, John Oliver Icenogle, sister, Hazel Parkhurst, brother Ralph Parkhurst, and sister Elizabeth Vick. She is survived by youngest sister Patricia Todd of Hacienda Heights, CA, her four sons: Wendell Icenogle of Winchester, CA; Harmon Icenogle (Ayako) of Auburn, CA; Gareth Icenogle (Vida) of Pasadena, CA; Milton Icenogle (Peggy) of Albuquerque, NM; and two daughters: Marcia Naasz (Stacy) of Winchester, CA; Shawn German of Hemet, CA; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She will be interred at the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery.
