Marvin D Long

December 17, 1929 ~ May 2, 2019 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Marvin Long passed away peacefully Thursday, May 2, 2019 with family by his side.  He was born December 17, 1929 in Armour, South Dakota to Fred and Dora Long at home on their farm along with five siblings.  After one year at South Dakota College and various jobs, Marvin served in the Air Force Intelligence during the Korean War in Ulm, Germany for 3 years.  While there, his future wife, Muriel Kelly arrived in Germany by ship to marry Marvin in December of 1952.

Marvin spent most of his life in various places working the insurance business eventually becoming the Sr. Vice President for Kluthe and Lane Insurance in Rapid City, South Dakota.  He also worked in real estate and was market manager at two retirement homes, eventually settling in Hemet, California with Muriel.  Marvin was active in various service organizations and was also a volunteer for the Hemet Volunteer Police Department and was an active member and on the Board of Trustees for Unity Church in Hemet.

Marvin is survived by a daughter, Michele Holm; Sons, Fred Long and Brad Long; A sister Mardell Hawley; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Andre Van Der Poel.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Muriel (Kelly) Long; son, Kevin Long; brothers, Donald Long, Meryl Long, and Sisters, Harriett Turnwall and LaVonne Sparks.

Marvin most enjoyed vacations spent with family and relatives.  He was “Known” for his famous barbequed chicken at family cabins over the 4th of July.

He will always be remembered for the devoted care he had given to his wife Muriel during her final years.

In lieu of flowers,any donations received will be used as gifts to the staff at Pacifica Retirement Home that so lovingly cared for Marvin in his final days.
